12.)

As far as I can remember, I have always been a fan of T.V. game shows; you know the ones that test the wittiness of the contestants. “Game Ka a ba,” ”Are you smarter than a fifth grader,” “Jeopardy” and “Celebrity Bluff”; these are just some of the shows that I enjoy watching but I do not just watch them, I make myself part of the show. For example, when the host ask the contestant the question I would answer it in a flash, it is because (most of the times) I already know the answer even without the choices (I’m not boasting here). More than these shows there is that one that I really love and it is the show “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?”

From the title itself you can already be hooked up, who wouldn’t want to be millionaire? I guess the title is one of the big reasons why this show is such a big success. I have mentioned earlier that I really love this show and that is why I even downloaded a PC version of it in our desktop and I play like anytime I can. Winning the one million in the PC version is just a piece of cake for me, and I think playing the PC version is just not enough anymore, that is why I dreamt of joining it someday.
This dream of me has been granted just a few weeks ago, but in the way that I’ve expected. Last , the ERC Department of the Asia Pacific College conducted a version of my favourite game show, but with a twist. The questions will be only revolving in the English language, be it grammar or literature. I have been chosen as one of the participants of our block, together with Jemima Yucoco and Napoleon Labuson. Sadly we have been eliminated in the first stage but I can proudly say that we got seven out of ten questions. Even though we lost I am still happy because I have learned three important lessons.

The first lesson that I have learned is that you should always trust your instincts and you should never doubt it. One of the questions that we failed to answer correctly is about the meaning of the word vesper. I knew that this word connects evening because I have heard in a game once, but I’ve never pushed this answer and I’ve doubted myself. If I have just trust my instincts then we could have advance to the next level.

Another lesson is that you should never go to the battlefield unarmed and unprepared. I believed that my stock knowledge and also the knowledge of my teammates is enough for us to win but I was wrong and as I have said earlier we have been eliminated early in the game.
Last thing is that you should always win every battle if you want to continue fighting. We have stayed in the auditorium we have already been eliminated and we tried to guess the answer to some difficult questions, we manage to answer most of them but since we are already eliminated there’s nothing we can do.

I am so blessed because I was able to join the said contest and I enjoy every bit of it. I am also very thankful to the ERC Department because they were able to make one of my biggest dream come true.

14.) There's nothing I can say

“Integrity has no need of rules” a famous line from the man himself Albert Camus. This line became the theme of the Public Speaking competition that had been held in the APC Auditorium last April 20, 2016. Selected students from different blocks presented their speeches about the theme that I have mentioned earlier. At first there were lots of them but after the elimination only eight of them triumphed against the others and these eight speakers are the ones that were able to present their speeches in the auditorium.

There are three speakers that really caught my attention. First is Tyron Santos from ABMA 154 or 153 (I can’t remember). He is remarkable because of the light atmosphere that he brought while he was delivering his speech. He is just like telling a story to his friends and he is able to make some jokes that can really catch the audience’s attention. Another speaker is that lady who connected integrity in waiting for a traffic light to turn green. She reminded us that integrity can be practiced even in the smallest of act. Lastly, our own Naps Labuson. Who shared us his act of courage and the practice of integrity by standing up for what really is right.

The performances of the eight speakers are really superb and I think that they are really blessed for having such a talent. It is the best public speaking competition that I have ever watched (well it is actually the first but I think it is the best).

I enjoyed the whole program, but aside from the speeches there is something that I enjoyed more about the program.

Before the participants presented their speeches they were first taken into different rooms to do the elimination and for us people who came to support them just stayed in the auditorium and the APC Speaks prepared entertaining activities for us.

They have called three different people to do a speed speech and it was fun watching them. After that there is the debate about a not so serious topic. The Speaks did a sample before they called students to participate. The debate was so amazing; it is like you are watching monsters (because of their debating skills) fighting each other. The winner for that battle is Ms Nina together with Ate Joana. Now is the time for them to call students from the audience, I was close into not participating if not for that gorgeous lady (whom I have a crush on) who persuaded me and Gab (from CPE 151) to join. The topic that we should debate about is “Walking from Magallanes to APC is better than riding the shuttle.” We are in the “shuttle” side. Gab did really well in that debate and me, I think I did just well enough for me not to lose my dignity (just kidding). My favourite part of that debate is when I rebutted that guy from the “walking” side when he said that we are weak because we can’t walk that far, I said that “You are saying that we are weak? Well I think you are not smart enough to use that 3 pesos efficiently.” It was not a very good rebuts but I think he really got burned with that.

That was truly a new experienced and because of that I am thinking of joining the APC Speaks to enhance my communication skils.

15.) Dominated by SOE

April 21, 2o16 - Once again, the SOE students dominated the large numbered ABMA students, in the Speech Choir and Ignite Competition. The ABMA may have won the ignite and the logo making contest but it’s the SOE who claimed the AVP and the Speech Choir Competition. The CPE 151 won the AVP and Speech Choir but we, the ECE 151 got the second place. What is it in us that make us triumphant, with our miniscule number of only 16, how can we actually defeat the blocks with more than 20 or even 30 students?

Unity is what really anchored us all throughout the English Term’s activities.
Most of the guys in our block are not so cooperative during practices but when it is game time they make sure that they will give their best. There are times that we have problems because they are not going to practices early and they also do naughty things during practices but all of those are erased because they gave all of their best when we performed in the auditorium.

Our practices never go easy because there are times that when we forgot to reserve a room, we are forced to occupy a room whose AC are not turned on. It is summertime and a room without an AC is like a few degrees Celsius away from hell.

We also encounter really big problems like: one of our block mates who has a very loud and energetic voice transferred to MAAP, also another block mate of ours transferred to JRU. But the biggest challenge that happened to us is the test that God had given to the family of one of our classmate. God may have out those challenges to us because he knows that we can easily conquer it with our unity and trust in him.

In the day of the competition we are anxious about our presentation. Especially, when one by one, our competitors began showing their amazing performances. The performances that really gave us the chill are performances of the first performer, CPE 151, and ABMA 151. One of our block mates even went downstairs because he thinks that we are nothing against these strong teams, but we still did our best and give everything we can.

Our dedication and hard work became fruitful because we got the second highest award and for me that really made our day.

13.) Story telling: The ECE way

Story telling is a really fun thing to do and I think doing it creatively is a lot more fun.
Last March 30, 2016, a Creative Story Telling Competition has been held in the Asia Pacific College Auditorium. Students from different courses compete and gave a very distinctive way of telling the story that has been assigned to them.

In our block, Jem Yucoco and Martin Yokoi are the ones chosen to represent our block and to portray the story "Ang Alamat ng Niyog" or "The Legend of the Coconut Tree". They asked help from some of our classmate to assist them in making the story telling better. I have been chosen to be one of the characters together with Kuya Paul Carcasona, Andrea Fajardo, and Hannia Ditano. We portrayed the family in the story and the animal characters. Also Shenelae Raton facilitate the visuals and Wilbert Mamawal handled the lights (well actually he was the one who did the lights even for the other contestants). Our production is complete, maybe that made our presentation really special.

The practices is just so casual, actually we are having fun while practicing because we are laughing whenever we do the funny voices for our characters (especially me because I have to imitate a very small voice of a child). Well I am not the only one who gets laughed at whenever we do our part. When Cylord do his part he is like doing a rap battle because he says the lines too fast. Another is when Hannia laughs even if there is nothing funny while rehearsing. We the characters are ruining the practice for Jem and Martin.

On the day of competition, we are pressured because we just won the Chants and Cheers competition and everyone especially some of the ERC faculty members are expecting something from us. But we didn’t give in to the pressure instead we did our best in the competition. We may have not presented it without flaws, like in the scene when I smash a “tabo” in the ground instead of using a pail and my extremely high-pitched voice or even the rap battle of Cylord.

The competition ended and we won. Such a wonderful experience it is.

11.)Words that are more than words

“This is a love story...” this is the first line in the piece performed by Jemima Yucoco, Napoleon Labuson, and Cylord Palahang in “The art of Spoken Word Slam Poetry” that has been held in the room 415 in the Asia Pacific College last March 9, 2016. The event is contest in which the contest are to perform a poet whether it be free verse or with rhyme.

I wasn’t able to go to the venue early because I lost my track of time while watching the basketball game in the 11th floor that is why I don’t have the idea about the other contestants performance, but I’m able to go to the venue just before my block mates starts theirs. I was also able to watch the performance of the winner and the third place (hmp…seems unusual but worth it because I was able to watch the three best performances in that afternoon.)

Though I was there when Jem, Cy and Nap whenever they have practices. There is just that new experience whenever they start reciting that I feel. By the way, the piece is a composition by Ms. Nina and I think it is based on the love story of the three contestants (especially for Naps).  For the other contestants, I think they also did great, especially for the winner they are really awesome.
Aside from the good poems and the ambiance, I also loved the food that they serve (haha). They made it like it a CafĂ© or something. They are serving sweets (I am not a fan of dessert but the marshmallows I’m really craving for them).

The program is hosted by two members of the APC Speaks, and I think they are a great host because they’re able to set the place in the right mood.

Events like this should be done also in high school because engaging students in this kind of competition can really make advancement to the as individuals

10.) Benj visits APC

Last March 31, 2016, the celebrity Benjamin Alves visited our school for his birthday. Everyone seems enjoyed by his visit, especially the girls. He spent his few hours in APC by sharing things about him, things that you may have not known.

Benjamin Alves is a product of GMA network and I barely know him as the star that portrayed the brother of Paulo Avelino in the Film “Sana” (this is a must watch movie).
Us guys, we are not so intersted in him but we really enjoyed the zagu and the free merienda that has been given.

Benjamin showed us his poetry his skills as he recites a poem that he has written long time ago. With that I remembered my poem that I should have recited in event.
In the “The art of Spoken Word Slam Poetry” there is an open mic portion in which the audience can share their poems. My blockmates are pursuing me to recite mine (well they saw that I am making a poem on the spot). I am caught by my shyness, but if not this would be my simple poem.

As I look in the stars tonight

I remember your smile that brings me to life
And as I lay and close my eyes
It echoed in my mind, your last goodbye

Your promise, love won’t stop and hurt won’t start
It was a lie because you shattered my soul and broke my heart

Forgetting you is hard to try
For my heart won’t stop bleeding and my eyes wont dry
For every scenery we haven’t seen and every places we might have been
The promise of forever that has never been granted just always remember you are the one ive ever wanted

Time will pass and earth might die
When the sun grew dim and the oceans go dry
Yes I might die and I will pass
But my love for you will always last

As I look in the stars tonight
I remember your smile that brings me to life
And as I lay and close my eyes
It echoed in my mind, your last goodbye

Your promise, love won’t stop and hurt won’t start
It was a lie because you shattered my soul and broke my heart

Forgetting you is hard to try for my heart won’t stop bleeding and my eyes wont dry
For every scenery we haven’t seen and every places we might have been
The promise of forever that has never been granted just always remember you are the one ive ever wanted

Time will pass and earth might die
When the sun grew dim and the oceans go dry
Yes I might die and I will pass
But my love for you will always last
