As far as I can remember, I have always been a fan of T.V. game shows; you know the ones that test the wittiness of the contestants. “Game Ka a ba,” ”Are you smarter than a fifth grader,” “Jeopardy” and “Celebrity Bluff”; these are just some of the shows that I enjoy watching but I do not just watch them, I make myself part of the show. For example, when the host ask the contestant the question I would answer it in a flash, it is because (most of the times) I already know the answer even without the choices (I’m not boasting here). More than these shows there is that one that I really love and it is the show “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?”
From the title itself you can already be hooked up, who wouldn’t want to be millionaire? I guess the title is one of the big reasons why this show is such a big success. I have mentioned earlier that I really love this show and that is why I even downloaded a PC version of it in our desktop and I play like anytime I can. Winning the one million in the PC version is just a piece of cake for me, and I think playing the PC version is just not enough anymore, that is why I dreamt of joining it someday.
This dream of me has been granted just a few weeks ago, but in the way that I’ve expected. Last , the ERC Department of the Asia Pacific College conducted a version of my favourite game show, but with a twist. The questions will be only revolving in the English language, be it grammar or literature. I have been chosen as one of the participants of our block, together with Jemima Yucoco and Napoleon Labuson. Sadly we have been eliminated in the first stage but I can proudly say that we got seven out of ten questions. Even though we lost I am still happy because I have learned three important lessons.
The first lesson that I have learned is that you should always trust your instincts and you should never doubt it. One of the questions that we failed to answer correctly is about the meaning of the word vesper. I knew that this word connects evening because I have heard in a game once, but I’ve never pushed this answer and I’ve doubted myself. If I have just trust my instincts then we could have advance to the next level.
Another lesson is that you should never go to the battlefield unarmed and unprepared. I believed that my stock knowledge and also the knowledge of my teammates is enough for us to win but I was wrong and as I have said earlier we have been eliminated early in the game.
Last thing is that you should always win every battle if you want to continue fighting. We have stayed in the auditorium we have already been eliminated and we tried to guess the answer to some difficult questions, we manage to answer most of them but since we are already eliminated there’s nothing we can do.
I am so blessed because I was able to join the said contest and I enjoy every bit of it. I am also very thankful to the ERC Department because they were able to make one of my biggest dream come true.
